Ritwik Chakravarty is a non-binary, queer-feminist activist, poet, and writer whose work is situated at the intersections of gender, sexuality, social justice, and constitutional rights. They have been actively engaged in feminist and queer movements for the past eight years, with sustained involvement in grassroots organising, political education, and community mobilisation.
For seven years, Ritwik has been a member of the Lucknow Pride Committee, where they have contributed to the organisation of Pride walks, queer sensitisation programmes, and rights-based initiatives across Uttar Pradesh. Their activism has consistently sought to create greater visibility for queer and trans communities while interrogating the social, political, and institutional structures that reproduce marginalisation.
Ritwik is the founder of Queers for Constitution, a collective committed to cultivating trans and queer leadership among communities historically excluded from dominant structures of political and social power. The collective foregrounds constitutional values, intersectional justice, and community-led leadership as instruments for challenging systemic discrimination and expanding democratic participation.
They are also associated with the All India Feminist Alliance and several women’s rights organisations and feminist collectives engaged in advocating for gender justice and confronting the structural manifestations of heteropatriarchy, capitalism, and social inequality. Their praxis is informed by an intersectional understanding of oppression, recognising the interconnected effects of gender, sexuality, class, caste, and other axes of marginalisation.
As a writer and poet, Ritwik’s literary practice is deeply informed by their political and activist engagements. Their writing has received recognition from state cultural institutions, and they have been invited by the Sahitya Akademi to perform at an international literature festival. Their intellectual work also extends into academic research; they have presented a research paper at the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California.
Across their activism, literary practice, and scholarship, Ritwik’s work remains grounded in grassroots organising, intersectional and proletarian perspectives, and the cultivation of solidarities across marginalised communities to amplify subaltern voices and build collective political agency.
