Amrita is the Grassroots Mobilisation and Community Engagement Consultant at FAT. She holds a Master's degree in Environment and Development Studies from Ambedkar University Delhi and a Bachelor's (Hons.) degree in Geography from Delhi University. She brings over 15 years of experience in the development sector, having worked across several Indian states on Gender Justice, Women's Empowerment, WASH, SRHR, Leadership Development, and Livelihoods.
Amrita was drawn to FAT because of its commitment to transparency, equality, and young women's leadership development. Having witnessed many young women grow, find their voices, and shape their own identities through the organisation, she strongly connected with FAT's approach to creating spaces where young women can exercise agency and lead change.
Amrita grew up in a deeply patriarchal family in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where she became the first girl in her family to speak up for change. That experience continues to shape her understanding of feminist leadership today.
For Amrita, feminist leadership begins with recognising and challenging the constraints within oneself and one's surroundings — and it grows only when people are supported to move forward together, through respect, equal opportunities, shared learning, and collective agency.
